I am a sixth-generation San Francisco native. I have been immersed in art and music since childhood. My parents were two free spirited bohemian artists from the Haight-Ashbury ‘Summer of Love.’ I was raised by quintessential flower children. And yes, my birth name really is ‘essence.’
As long as I can remember I have wanted to capture truth, be it ecstatic joy, deep sorrow, or the myriad experiences of everyday life. I’ve spent the better part of my life singing and writing songs and I have released 4 critically acclaimed albums on both major and indie labels. (essenceandgoldcountry.com & aDogNamedMoo.com) When I became a mother I spent less time touring and playing live shows, and I discovered the thrill of capturing moments in the photographic format, as my children blossomed before my eyes. This passion soon extended to portraits of other people and life experiences.
Wherever I go there are unique stories to tell. I strive to tell these stories with the honesty of photojournalism and the artistry of fine art. Light, color, fast and fleeting emotion, spontaneous expression, and changing geography lock together in a blink of time. When I work on a project I am 100% focused. I offer you my undivided attention, my aesthetic sense, my intuitive reflexes, and my timely delivery of the fruits of our labor. Our work together is a collaborative experience. The subject gets to be their beautiful, natural self. I am dedicated to capturing the spirit of the moment.
